Am gestrigen 30. November war nun mein letzter Arbeitstag in Proton.
Dort habe ich dann alle noch offenen Punkte erledigt und pünktlich zum Abend meinen Schlüssel und Zugangskarte abgegeben.
Jetzt habe ich seit heute ein paar Tage frei, die dann zum Koffer packen und Aufräumen genutzt werden.
Zurück nach Deutschland geht es dann kommenden Montag kurz vor Mitternacht Ortszeit.

Yesterday, November 30th, was my last working day here in Proton.
I managed to solve all outstanding issues and in the evening before leaving the office I finally returned the room key and my access card.
Now, I’ve several free days to pack my suit cases and clean up my apartment.
My return flight back to Germany will be next Monday, shortly before midnight local time.

So kurz vor Ende gab es dann noch einen kleinen Schock für mich im Büro.
Mittlerweile wurden schon verschiedene Benutzerhandbücher für neue Fahrzeugmodelle erstellt und dann auch gedruckt.
Bei der Variante für ein Facelift des Proton Sagas habe ich heute das Handbuch zum ersten Mal gesehen.
Und schon beim Durchblättern hab ich einen gravierenden Fehler gesehen: auf einem Großteil der Seiten sind Warnsymbole (Ausrufezeichen) nicht dargestellt, sondern es erscheint nur ein schwarzer Kasten.
Von dem Handbuch waren dann aber auch schon 20.000 Exemplare gedruckt. Glücklicherweise hat sich dann am Ende aber herausgestellt, dass unsere Daten korrekt sind 🙂 und in der Druckerei irgendwas falsch lief.
Diese wird jetzt dann die kompletten Handbücher nochmal erneut drucken und binden lassen ;-).

In einigen Stunden geht es am heutigen Mittwoch dann ins Büro, zum dann vorletzten Arbeitstag meines Einsatzes hier.
Da steht dann auch ein Mittagessen anlässlich meiner baldigen Abreise zusammen mit dem gesamten HP-Team sowie den Kollegen der Proton-IT an :-).
Abends heißt es dann wieder Koffer packen und früh ins Bett gehen. Am nächsten Morgen geht es dann nämlich mitten in der Nacht zum Flughafen und dort dann um kurz nach 7 morgens mit dem Flieger in Richtung Ost-Malaysia / Borneo.
Nach 3 Stunden Flugzeit, 1 Stunde Busfahrt und dann noch einem halbstündigen Bootstransfer werde ich dann pünktlich zum Mittagessen im Roach Reefs Ressort eintreffen. Dort stehen dann an 3 1/2 Tagen mindestens 10 Tauchgänge an und für 1 oder 2 Tage ist eine Bootsfahrt zur Insel Sipadan geplant, die unter Kennern als einer der schönsten Tauchplätze in Südost-Asien benannt wird :-).
Ich freue mich schon auf eine schöne Reise und interessante Tauchgänge :-). Und dank der Lage vor der Küste, habe ich dort auch keinen Handy-Empfang oder Internetzugriff, so dass ich mich dann schön gemütlich von allem Arbeitsstress erholen kann 🙂
Zurück komm ich dann am Montag Abend so gegen 22 Uhr am Flughafen an, am Dienstag steht dann noch der offiziell letzte Arbeitstag für mich an. Wobei hier die meiste Zeit wohl mit Abschied nehmen und privaten Gesprächen vergehen wird :P.

In a few hours, today’s Wednesday will be my last but one working day of my project here in Malaysia.
We’ll go out for lunch for a small fare-well celebration together with the entire HP team and all the colleagues from Proton IT :-).
In the evening, I’m supposed to pack my suitcase one more time and shall go to bed early. As on the next day, I’ll be driving to the airport in the middle of the night to depart shortly past 7 a.m. with an AirAsia flight to East Malaysia / Borneo.
After around 3 hours in the airplane, 1 hour bus transfer and another 30 minutes boat ride, I’ll arrive around lunch time at Roach Reefs Ressort. During 3 1/2 days there, I’ll do at least 10 dive and will be going for 1 or 2 days to the island Sipadan which is told to be the best diving spot in South East Asia :-).
I’m already looking forward to have a nice trip and to enjoy some great dives :-). And thanks to the off-shore location I won’t have a mobile phone signal or Internet access, so that I really can relax from all the stress at work there :-).
I’ll arrive back at the airport on Monday evening around 10 p.m. The following Tuesday will be my last official day in the office here. Though I assume most of the time this day will be occupied by saying fare well to all the people there and a lot of private small talk :P.

Wie ich ja schon geschrieben hatte, war ursprünglich der Flug nach Yogyakarta geplant, den ich dann aber aus Sicherheitsgründen nach Jakarte umgeplant habe.
Das hatte ich dann erst Mal auf eigene Kosten getan, da auch der andere Flug nicht unbedingt teuer war.
Aufgrund der ganzen Asche ist der Flughafen in Yogyakarta immer noch gesperrt und mein Originalflug nun auch storniert.
Das ist gut, da ich so dann mein Geld wiederbekomme, zwar nicht in Bar, aber als Gutschein für weitere Flüge.
Daher werd ich evtl. noch 2 der 6 freien Tag in Malaysia mit einer weiteren Reise verbringen. Da der stornierte Flug vergleichsweise teuer war, stehen nun Thailand/Bangkok, Philippinen/Manila, Brunei oder Kambodscha auf dem Programm. Mit der Erstattung lässt sich da dann für alle Strecken ein Rückflugticket kaufen :-).

As already written before, I changed my travel plan from Yogyakarta to go to Jakarta instead due to security reasons.
First, I paid the replacement ticket myself (as comparably cheap) but not the initial flight got canceled too.
That’s good as I’ll get a refund for the ticket :-). But just as a voucher for another flight.
Now, I’m thinking to spend 2 of my 6 remaining free days here for another trip.
With the money (was an expensive flight) I looked up and can pay a return trip to either Thailand/Bangkok, Philippines/Manila, Brunei or Cambodia.
So, seems one more trip to be planned ;D.

Das vergangene Wochenende stand ganz im Zeichen des bald anstehenden Abschieds:

• Am Freitagabend habe ich ein weiteres Paket für den Versand nach Deutschland fertiggemacht und dieses dann am Samstagmorgen zur Post hier bei mir gleich um die Ecke gebracht.
  Das ist damit schon das 3. Paket von mir, das sich auf dem Weg nach Deutschland befindet. Und Nummer 4 steht schon fertig verschnürt hier neben mir.
  In den Paketen befinden sich dann größtenteils nicht so dringliche Dinge und Souvenirs. Daher wird das Ganze dann auch per Schifffracht nach Hause geschickt und bei einer Paketlaufzeit von 5 Wochen bis 3 Monate auch erst nach mir ankommen.
  Es werden dann zwar alle Leute ihre Souvenirs erst irgendwann im neuen Jahr bekommen ;-), dafür ist das Paket dann aber sehr billig :-). (5kg – 46,30 Ringgit, ~ 11 Euro; 8,6 kg – 62,10 Ringgit, ~ 14,50 Euro).
  Hauptgrund für das Versenden per Post sind dann aber weder die Kosten (bekomme von HP bis zu 500 US-Doller für Pakete + Übergepäck im Flieger) noch der Platz in meinen 2 Koffern. Vielmehr werden einige Dinge auf Pakete verteilt nach Deutschland geschickt um die Warenmenge in meinem Koffer auf dem Rückflug zu reduzieren. Da darf ich nämlich nur Waren im Wert bis zu 430 Euro zollfrei mitnehmen. Und je Paket kann ich 45 Euro ohne Zoll versenden (zumindest wenn ich Absender und Empfänger der Pakete leicht variiere ;-)).
• Etwas später ging es dann in eine Einkaufszentrum knapp eine halbe Stunde entfernt von meiner Wohnung (TheCurve). Bei dem Wochenendeausflug nach Kuanten hatte ich meiner Kollegin Norlianna, Ehemann Hatman und dem Sohn Harris versprochen, sie vor meiner Abreise noch zu einem tollen Essen einzuladen.
  So ging es dann dort in ein wirklich gutes Steakhaus 🙂 und danach noch eine Runde zu IKEA zum Bummeln.
• Für den Abend hatte ich mich dann mit dem ehemaligen Projekt-Manager meines Projektes verabredet. Mit ihm hatte ich vor meiner Abreise und die ersten Wochen hier viel zu tun, er hat mir bei allen möglichen administrativen Dingen geholfen (z.B. Visa). Nach einer Weile wurde er aber mi Projekt durch einen anderen Kollegen ersetzt. Danach hatten wir aber noch immer mal wieder Kontakt per E-Mail, vor der Abreise wollte ich mich aber dann nochmal kurz mit ihm treffen.
• Am Sonntagvormittag habe ich dann mal all die Dinge, die ich hier so gekauft habe angeschaut und geprüft was ich mit nach Deutschland nehmen kann/will. Für meine Wohnung hier musste ich dann etwas Geschirr, Töpfe und Co. besorgen. Viele der Dinge lohnen einen Rücktransport nicht, so dass ich das dann so nach und nach an Freunde und Kollegen verschenken werde :-).
• Am frühen Nachmittag ging es dann mit dem Auto nach Kuala Lumpur, zum Central Market. Das ist ein große Markt, in dem man lokale Handwerke und allerlei Ramsch kaufen kann ;-). Dort hab ich mich dann mit allerlei Souvenirs für zu Hause eingedeckt, die jetzt in Paket Nr. 4 verpackt sind ;-).
• Und aktuell plane ich dann noch eine kleine Abschiedsfeier mit den Kollegen im Büro. Für meinen letzten Tag hab ich daher schon mal verschiedene Kuchen bestellt und hab für meine Kollegen dann noch Souvenirs aus Deutschland und von meinen Reisen hier als kleine Geschenke ;-).

Most of my activities last weekend have been related to my departure scheduled for just a few more weeks:

• Friday evening, I finished with another parcel for Germany and brought it to the post office just around the corner on Saturday morning.
  So, that’s already parcel Number 3 on the way back home and the next one is already completely packed and just besides me.
  Within the parcels, there’s some not so urgent stuff and several souvenirs. So, I just chose to send it home using by ship. This may take 5 weeks up to 3 months and so will arrive in Germany only after I got back.
  But so, the people have to wait till next year to get their souvenirs ;-), but the parcel is comparably cheap 🙂 (5kg – 46,30 Ringgit, ~ 11 Euro; 8,6 kg – 62,10 Ringgit, ~ 14,50 Euro).
  The main reason to send some stuff by mail is not the cost (I’ll get up to 500 US-Dollar for parcels or excess luggage from HP) and neither the space in my 2 suitcases. But I need to send some stuff home earlier to reduce the items I’m carrying in my suitcase during the return flight: I’m only allowed to bring goods with a value up to 430 Euro home without paying customs. But if I send stuff by parcel, I may put in every one goods with a value up to 45 Euro without paying customs ;-).
• A bit later, I went to a shopping mall around 30 minutes from my apartment (TheCurve) as I promised to my colleague Norlianna + family during out trip to Kuantan to invite them for some nice lunch or dinner before my departure. So, we went to a nice steak house 🙂 and I also wandered around a while in IKEA.
• For the evening, I planned a meeting with our former project manager Nazim. I dealt with him quite a lot before the departure and also the first few weeks here, he helped me a lot with all those administrative stuff (e.g. Visa). After a while, he got replaced in the project by another HP colleague but I kept in touch with him by sending E-Mails from time to time. So, I met him for a last time now for some small dinner and had some nice talk with him.
• Sunday morning, I checked and listed down all the stuff I bought here and kept thinking what I want /can take back to Germany. I needed to buy some stuff for my apartment like plates, pots or pans. But for most of the stuff, it’s not worth shipping it back to Germany so that I’ll give many things away to some friends and colleagues during the next weeks :-).
• Early afternoon, I drove to Kuala Lumpur with my car to visit Central Market, a large place for buying local craft and souvenirs. So, I bought quite some souvenirs for the people back home and those are now packed in parcel number 4 ;-).
• And at the moment, I’m planning to do a small farewell for the people in the office. I ordered some cake for the last day and will also distribute some souvenirs from Germany and my travels here to my colleagues ;-).

Die Vorbereitungen für meine Urlaube gehen mittlerweile munter weiter.
Aufgrund des Vulkanausbruchs in Indonesien habe ich jetzt entschieden, noch einmal in die Hauptstadt Jakarta zu fliegen um dann nach kurzem Aufenthalt nach Bandung weiterzufliegen.
Für den Tauchausflug Ende des Monats habe ich nun heute meine Leihausrüstung (zumindest den Teil, den ich nicht selbst schon habe) abgeholt.
Dabei hab ich dann auch erzählt bekommen, dass bei dem Trip insgesamt 7 Leute, davon 4 Deutsche dabei sind. Da kann ich dann schon mal wieder die Sprache “lernen”, bevor es kurz drauf wieder in die Heimat geht :P.

I’m making some progress on planning my upcoming trips :-).
Due to the volcano eruption, I decided now not to fly to Yoyakarta. Instead, I’ll fly again to the capital Jakarta and will take a train to Bandung after a short stay there.
For the diving trip end of this month, I just picked up my rental equipment (at least the parts I don’t possess myself) today.
Then, I got told that 7 people booked this trip with the same dive shop, and 4 out of them are German. Seems I can “practice” my German skills then :P.
