So, mit dem gestrigen Finale Japan gegen die USA ging nun die diesjährige Fußball-WM der Frauen zu Ende. Nach Elfmeterschießen hat dann USA am Ende unglücklich verloren.
Eine weitere Niederlage während des Turniers erlitt die USA im letzten Gruppenspiel gegen das Team aus Schweden. Dieses Spiel fand in Wolfsburg statt, genau zu der Zeit, als ich beruflich dort war. Das Spiel war nicht ausverkauft, am Ende waren noch mehr als 3000 Plätze frei, habe ich mir kurzfristig auch noch eine Karte besorgt und mir dieses Spiel angeschaut.
Schon auf dem Parkplatz war ich überrascht. So waren dort sehr viele Fans aus Schweden, die per Bus oder Auto angereist sind, als auch viele US-Amerikaner, der Großteil aus dem Süden Deutschland, wo sich immer noch viele amerikanische Kasernen befinden. Die Fans haben dann später beim Spiel auch sehr viel Stimmung gemacht. Vermutlich war mehr dort, als wenn der dortig Provinzklub VfL Wolfsburg im selben Stadion seine Bundesliga-Spiele hat :P.
Das Spiel war dann auch überraschend gut, wurde später im Radio sogar als das bis dahin beste Spiel der WM gelobt. Schweden gewann dann am Ende knapp, aber verdient mit 2:1. Alles in allem war es ein nettes Ereignis und der Besuch im Stadion hat sich dann doch gelohnt :-).

English – Women’s World Cup
Yesterday, the last match of Women’s World Cup 2011 took place between USA and Japan. At the end, Japan won after penalty kicks.
The other match the US lost before in the tournament was the last match of group stage against Sweden. This match took place in Wolfsburg, just at the same time when I was there for business. As the match was not sold out I decided to buy a ticket for the game.
I was already surprised on the parking lot to see so many fans from Sweden, they came by car/bus, and also many US americans, coming from the South of Germany where we still have many US barracks. There was a good atmosphere in the stadium then :-).
Also the match was quite good, on my way back to the hotel they said in the radio that it was the best match for the World Cup so far. Sweden won at the end with 2:1 against the US team. It was a nice match and it was worth going to the stadium :-).
