Um das neue Jahr 2011 zu feiern ging es Ende Dezember in Richtung Rotterdam, Niederlande. Nach einem Zwischenstopp mit Übernachtung in der Nähe von Münster ging es am Morgen des Silvester mit dem Auto nach Rotterdam, wo wir mit insgesamt 12 Leuten feiern wollten.
Geplant war zuerst in den beiden uns zur Verfügung stehenden Wohnungen zu essen um später dann ins Stadtzentrum zu fahren und dort dann den Jahreswechsel zu begehen. In Rotterdam haben wir dann aber erst einmal festgestellt, dass doch nicht alles so einfach werden sollte, wie vorher geplant. Von 20 Uhr am 31. bis um 7 Uhr an Neujahr verkehren dort nämlich weder S-Bahnen noch Busse. Und auch Taxis sind (laut eines Taxifahrers) aufgrund von nur 30% der regulär tätigen Fahrer nur schwer zu kriegen.

Statt öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln sind wir dann mit dem Auto in die Stadt rein gefahren, wo wir auf und um die Erasmusbrug (Erasmusbrücke) bei den öffentlichen Feierlichkeiten teilnehmen wollten. Dort ist in der Regel eine große öffentliche Party mit Verkaufsbuden, vielen Leuten, großen Feuerwerk und super Stimmung.
Aber auch hier wurden wir leicht enttäuscht. Da 1 Woche vor Silvester in Rotterdam mehrere Menschen unter Terrorverdacht festgenommen wurden, hatte die Stadt alle öffentlichen Feierlichkeiten abgesagt. Davon haben wir dann aber erst erfahren, als wir in der Stadt waren ;-).
Wir haben uns dann dort das öffentliche Feuerwerk bei der Brücke angeschaut und sind später wieder in Richtung Wohnung gefahren um dort noch etwas weiter zu feiern.
Trotz all der Änderungen unseres Plans hatten wir einen netten Abend und guten Start ins Jahr 2011 :-).

We have been celebrating the New Year 2011 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. End of December we started our journey and drove to Rotterdam after a stop-over near Münster with 3 cars and 12 people.
We planned to dine in the 2 apartments we had there and to go to the the city center later on and celebrate the New Year there. But after arriving we realized that it won’t be as easy as planed before. Between 8 p.m. on 31st until 7 a.m. on 1st January no public transport is running in the whole city and according to a taxi driver it would be nearly impossible to get some taxi that night.

So we decided to drive to the city center instead of using public transport. We wanted to attend the public party around Erasmusbrug (Erasmus Bridge), usually with a lot of food&beverage stalls, many people, big fireworks and a great atmosphere.
But we also got a bit disappointed there. The city of Rotterdam had canceled all public celebrations on short notice as just around 1 week before New Year’s Eve the police arrested several people suspicious of planning a terrorist attack (The arrested have been 12 Muslim men originating from Somalia). And we just got to know about the cancellation after arriving in the city center ;-).
So we just walked around and watched the fireworks near the bridge and drove back to the apartment later to celebrate some more over there.
Despite all the changes in our plan we had a nice evening and a good start in the new year 2011 :-).
